Our Guidelines
General Information:
VDC has a quarterly newsletter – please watch for it in print or by email.
Please keep informed – all new information will be posted on our bulletin board located in the lower lobby.
Volunteering – The VDC is always appreciative of extra help. If you would like to become a VDC volunteer, please inform the office.
We encourage new students to drop-in to any class at their level. Please talk to the teacher afterwards regarding appropriate class placements.
In an effort to keep classes running on time, we ask that you please direct questions/concerns to the office; messages for instructors will be forwarded – the instructor will reply at their earliest convenience.
Each year, the school offers a number of scholarships and bursaries to deserving students. Applications will be made available near the year end. If you would like to donate to the VDC Scholarship Fund, please contact the office.
There are viewing days for classes throughout the year. Please refer to the calendar for dates (everyone welcome).
Policies and Expectations:
Good attendance is mandatory. If attendance becomes an issue, the teacher has discretionary rights to request the student be removed from class. Students are encouraged to inform the office of any expected absences prior to the day(s) they will be away.
Students must come prepared for class and arrive on time. Students who are consistently late may no longer be able to participate in class.
Always be respectful of your instructors and your environment. Please show consideration for others while enjoying the facility. Disciplinary and conduct issues will be dealt with promptly.
Help us keep VDC clean. Garbage must not be left in the studios, bathrooms or lobby area.
Ballet exams will be offered; participation is at the instructor’s discretion. Exam students are required to attend extra classes in preparation for examination. Instructors will inform students of all necessary dates/times.
In the event that VDC must cancel a class, a make-up class will be offered.
One-month’s written notice is required in the event that a student has to withdraw from class. Notice must be given before the 1st of the preceding full month. Refunds will be pro-rated on an individual basis.
Year End Show:
All classes participate in our annual concert(s) held at the Royal Theatre. Soloists and small groups are presented in our Annual Solo Show held at VDC.
Company Auditions:
Students wishing to audition for Junior or Senior Company must fill out an application form and submit it prior to the September audition dates, TBA. Application forms are available from the office or your instructor.
Festivals/Competitions:
The VDC has participated in the following festivals: Upper Island (Nanaimo), Greater Victoria, and DanceWorks (Victoria). Classes/Individuals selected to participate (TBA) will be informed by the end of October.
Solos/Duos/Trios and Small Groups: Every year, the VDC enters a number of individuals for competition. Those students who enjoy the challenge and rewards of performance may have the opportunity to participate. Arrangements are made between the instructor and the individual student(s) as to practice times, fees, etc. Instructors may invite students they believe would benefit from this opportunity; interested students may also apply for consideration. Deadline for applications/consent forms is Oct. 31, 2007.
