Lisa Mellett
Lisa Mellet

Lisa has trained in many forms of dance since the age of three. She has been fortunate to have performed and traveled with many great dancers and has trained at the Edge Performing Arts School in LA. Her years of experience as an award winning competitive dancer, gymnast and choreographer have made her an extremely popular instructor. Lisa went on to open her own studio in 1997 which soon became one of the largest in the Lower Mainland. Her students participated in numerous dance festivals through out B.C. and the Western US winning many awards. She is recognized in the dance community as a creative and dynamic choreographer.

In 2000 Lisa sold her studio, got married and moved to Victoria. Since then she has been teaching at various dance schools in the Victoria area. During that time she has developed an alliance with some of the top teachers on the island forming what is now the Victoria Dance Connection.

Lisa has a passion for teaching, she believes in the strong technical development and positive motivation of her students. Empowering them to reach for their utmost potential.

Phoebe Rumsey
Phoebe Rumsay

Ms. Rumsey earned a Bachelor of Arts in Dance from Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, and a Master of Arts in Theatre from the University on Nevada, Las Vegas. (Thesis: Dance in the Contemporary American Musical theatre. What has become of the Dream Ballet?). She has had an extensive professional career that allowed for much traveling. She spent 5 years working as a dancer, singer and swing in Las Vegas at the Rio Hotel and Casino’s Masquerade Show in the Sky, as well as shows at Caesars, Harrahs, and Studio 54 at MGM. She was a cast member of a lavish Broadway revue in Japan and raucous Can-can shows in the Yukon. She was a dancer and singer in the 2001 World Tour of Sixties Mania, which traveled extensively through North America. Her skills as a dance captain and company ballet mistress have made her an invaluable part of production teams. Her skills include ballet, jazz, tap, modern, musical theatre, acting and voice.

An accomplished choreographer and teacher, Ms. Rumsey is an active entrant in the Victoria Festival of Performing Arts, Dance Works Festival and the Nanaimo Festival of Performing Arts. She has earned gold medal and first place standings for her innovative and evocative choreography. Ms. Rumsey has previously taught dance classes in Ontario and now currently teaches many classes for Dansko in Saanich BC, as well as at VDC and for Kaleidoscope Theatre. She has also been a guest jazz teacher at The Canadian College of Performing Arts in Victoria, BC on several occasions."

She has trained under Grant Strate, Earl Kraul, Judith Garay, Santa Aloi, The Edge in Los Angeles, Harbour Dance in Vancouver, Randolph’s Academy of Performing Arts in Toronto and the Alberta Ballet. She has performed and trained at the American College Dance Festival, in Salt Lake City. She has completed RAD and ISTD exams in ballet.

Rachel Dewey
Rachel Dewey

Rachel has been dancing and performing since the age of three. She has had extensive training in Tap, Ballet, Modern and Jazz with such local teachers as Allison Charlton, Maureen Eastick, Sherry Black, Arabella Martin, Amanda Dewey, and Lynn Stevens. Rachel has also studied with such notable teachers and choreographers as Brian Macdonald, Annette av Paul, Susan Toumine, David LaHay and Crystal Pite. She has performed and competed at many festivals, recitals and benefits both nationally and internationally including the Dance Olympus Competition in Las Vegas where she was awarded the gold medal for her tap solo. As a dancer she has received numerous awards and scholarships including the Family Food Mart Trophy for the performer showing most potential as a professional dancer. Rachel has taught at such local studios as Pacific Dance Centre and Excalibre Dance, and loves sharing her passion for dance with her students.
